Compression is one of the hardest things to figure out. I've been to MANY, many sites that advise for youtube and other websharing video forums, but nothing seemed to work. Finally managed to figure it out though.. here are the settings I used for the videos you see here on droppinshorts.

Export from Final Cut into Compressor 2.0
480x360 screen size.
(Youtube still suggests 240x320, but that's smaller than the actual size, so you lose lots of resolution)
Mpeg4 video (for me, this looks better than wma or quicktime)
Frame rate: 30 fps
The KEY is the kbits/second - you have experiment. I'm willing to go as high as 4800 if the video is short enough. You may have to test to see how many mb each setting gives you.
Compressor has great presets. Start with ipod preset and play with it.
If anyone has better suggestions, let us know.
ALSO, I still can't get the letterbox to work. I film in HD, but aspect ratio keeps getting shifted for regular DV. This is driving me nuts!
Help?
I also do mono rather than stereo. Would make an exception for a music video.
I keyframe every 8 frames
And compress at BEST possible quality
